Aim The mission of the Silk
Lab is to provide social and economic security to women
living in Pouk District, Siem Reap Province – one of the
poorest districts in Cambodia – by providing training
for these women to become professional
seamstresses.
History
& Philosophy The Silk La, a project of
the Italian NGO Progetto Continenti, was established in
2005 to provide training and employment to women aged
between 17 and 27 from Pouk District.
The profits
from the Silk Lab go towards supporting the nearby
Sangkheum Children’s Centre. The range of products
currently being produced by the Silk Lab include fashion
and home décor silk accessories which are sold to hotels
and guesthouses in Siem Reap.
