Aim
Mekong Blue is the
commercial operation of the Stung Treng Women’s
Development Center (SWDC), a Cambodian humanitarian NGO
focusing on developing life skills that assist in
breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy for
vulnerable people, especially women, in Stung Treng
Province.
History &
Philosophy
Established in 2002 by a
Cambodian couple, SWDC supports a community that deals
with the challenges of poverty, low education, few
employment opportunities and geographical remoteness.
SWDC aims to break the cycle of poverty and improve
living standards by offering programs in literacy and
health education, vocational training and
employment.
Through Mekong Blue, the organisation
uses silk renowned for its durability to create
beautiful products that incorporate both traditional and
contemporary colors and designs. Most importantly,
through the production and sale of these products, the
life of the community is improved and individuals are
empowered.
SWDC is currently the largest employer in Stung Treng
Province, Cambodia. Products
